A Mother’s Plea: Fire Assemblymember Corey Jackson

OP ED: Assembly Member Corey Jackson is more worried about transing kids than the critical issues facing working families in California

By Elizabeth Barcohana, Los Angeles --  Dear Riverside County, The mothers of California are begging you to help turn out the vote in November and fire Assemblymember Corey Jackson currently representing District 60 (Hemet, Good Hope, Green Acres, Homeland, Lakeview, Mead Valley, Moreno Valley, Nuevo, Perris, Romoland).  Corey Jackson is simply too extreme for our families and communities, and has priortized gender transitions in schools over the critical issues faciing working families. He is so extreme, that our liberal Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed some of his trans bills designed to take parents rights away, promote pornographic material in schools, and allows teachers form secretive and inapropriate grooming relationships with kids in schools.
Assembly District 60 is a majority Latino district made up of hardworking people with strong family values, which is why we suspect that you will be shocked to learn what Asm. Jackson has been doing in Sacramento on your behalf:
  • He authored a new law that keeps pornography in school classrooms and libraries, and prohibits local school boards from removing it (AB 1078).
  • He sponsored a new law that allows teachers to facilitate a student’s gender transition without informing the student’s parents.  (AB 1955).
  • He voted for a law that would remove custody of a child from a parent who does not support the child’s gender transition.  (AB 957, Vetoed by Gov. Newsom).
Asm. Jackson’s record on public safety is equally bad:
  • He opposes Proposition 36, which would increase punishment for certain repeat fentanyl and “smash-and-grab” crimes, even though over 70% of Californians support it according to a recent poll by the Public Policy Institute of California.
  • He tried (but failed) to stop law enforcement from using police K-9s on the basis that police dogs are a racist tool of oppression against Black Americans.  (AB 742). He opposed a bill that would forfeit sanctuary state protections for the undocumented who were convicted of sex crimes against children (i.e., he protected pedophiles from deportation).  (AB 2641).
  • Prior to entering office, his non-profit sued Riverside County with the goal of defunding campus police and eliminating law enforcement from all schools, costing taxpayers $1.4 million in a settlement and leaving thousands of children vulnerable to crime in schools.
Do these positions represent your values and priorities?
Assembly District 60 recently had lower voter turnout rates than other Districts in California, allowing Asm. Jackson to come into office on a relatively small margin and pursue his destructive agenda.  He had another poor showing in the March 2024 Primary, pulling ahead of his opponents by a mere 1,564 votes.  This means his seat is vulnerable and he can be beat in this coming election if the voters in District 60 want to fire him.  He is hurting all of us.  The mothers throughout California are begging you to please stop Asm. Jackson from continuing to destroy our Golden State, and elect pro-safety and pro-parent Ron Edwards instead this November.
The moms of California are counting on you.
With gratitude, Elizabeth Barcohana
