Thursday 19th September, 2024: Great Britain and the United States of America’s 173-year-old sporting rivalry is set to embark on its next chapter, with today’s announcement of the inaugural Anglo-American Padel Cup.
The Anglo-American Padel Cup will debut at New York’s esteemed Padel Haus from 9 - 11 May 2025, with London set to host when it becomes Britain’s turn to stage the Cup in 2026. The Cup builds on the famed “special relationship” between the two nations and features elite players across Open, 40s, 50s and 60s categories for Men and Women.
The British and American teams will consist of four players (two teams) per category in both Men’s and Women’s competitions, a total of 64 players participating at New York’s premier Padel venue during two days of competition.
The Cup is the brainchild of Bill Ullman and Ben Nichols. Both have lived in the USA and the UK, and they share a joint passion for Britain and America’s renowned special relationship, shared cultures and longstanding tradition in racquet sports.
Anglo-American Padel Cup Co-Founders Bill Ullman and Ben Nichols, said: “We are delighted to announce the arrival of the first ever Anglo-American Padel Cup. Those that follow their sport closely will know that our two countries have long shared an esteemed sporting rivalry which has included tennis’ Davis and Wightman Cups, golf’s Ryder and Walker Cups, and many others over the years. Given the historic sporting rivalry between our two nations, we realised that we were sitting on a fascinating twist in this most storied of sporting duals, in that with Padel, Britain and America are, actually “the new kids on the block”. We decided that with the Cup, we could create a fantastic new slice of Anglo-American sporting history through the lens of the world’s fastest-growing sport.”
Padel Haus Founder CEO, Santiago Gomez, said: “Padel Haus is delighted to host the inaugural Anglo-American Padel Cup in May 2025. Britain and America’s long-standing sporting history needs no introduction, and so I am thrilled that Padel Haus has been chosen to host this landmark tournament which comes at a time of immense growth for the sport across the United States.”
Further details of both teams’ captains across all categories will be announced in the coming months, along with further details of the landmark first edition in May 2025.
