19 February 2024 - Freiburg, Germany
WeGenerate, a Europe-wide urban regeneration project focused on co-creating sustainable, resilient and beautiful neighbourhoods with pilots in Bucharest (Romania), Cascais (Portugal), Cesena (Italy) and Tampere (Finland), has released a call for five Fellow Cities as part of the project’s peer-to-peer learning and exchange programme. The call is open to local authorities from all European Union Member States and 16 Horizon Europe associated countries. The selected cities will receive financial and expert support from project and local partners - including 10.000€ to prepare a Replication Roadmap, funding for travel to participate in eight on-site learning visits, and more - to further test innovative solutions developed by Bucharest, Cascais, Cesena and Tampere.
Fellow City applications will be assessed on eligibility criteria, evaluation criteria and strategic selection as outlined in the call. Online applications will be accepted until 1 March at 23:59 CET.
WeGenerate, a four-year Horizon Europe Innovation Action, aims to centre people and co-creation in the urban regeneration process. The project is set to create long-lasting positive impacts within participating neighbourhoods, and beyond, by addressing different local and social challenges. Initiatives will foster close collaboration with city administrations as well as citizens, local communities, and businesses. At the end of the project, the WeGenerate Demo Cities’ (Bucharest, Cascais, Cesena and Tampere) innovative solutions seek to answer the question: what are the ingredients for sustainable and inclusive urban regeneration that cultivate long-lasting positive impacts? This legacy will be upheld through replication by the five Fellow Cities.
The project is organised and developed by 21 partners from nine countries, including Fraunhofer, ICLEI Europe, ENGIE and the University of Bologna, among others.

About WeGenerate
WeGenerate is an Innovation Action designed to fully address the topic HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-02-02 ‘Solutions for the sustainable, resilient, inclusive and accessible regeneration of neighbourhoods enabling low carbon footprint lifestyles and businesses (Built4People)’. The project seeks to infuse the elements of people and co-creation in the urban regeneration processes. It fully embraces the paradigm shift from building for the people to building with the people. We – cities, citizens, communities, businesses, researchers, and practitioners – take ownership of the urban regeneration processes and co-create together sustainable, resilient, people-centric, inclusive, accessible, and beautiful neighbourhoods.
